---+ Simulating a Storage Area Network for the Department of Engineering Science

---++ Objective

The objective of this project is to use <a href="https://www.opnet.com/products/modeler/home-2.html" target="_blank">OPNET's Modeler</a> to simulate the storage system within the <a href="https://www.des.auckland.ac.nz" target="_blank">Department of Engineering Science (DES)</a> at <a href="https://www.auckland.ac.nz" target="_blank">The University of Auckland</a>. This project arose from the [[ORUA.DESStorageDesign][DES storage system design project]] and ran concurrently with the later stages of that project.

---++ Approach

This project was performed as two student projects:
   * [[DESStorageSimulateSummer][Summer Internship 2006/2007]]
   * [[DESStorageSimulateHonours][Honours Research Project 2007]]

This work predominantly used OPNET Modeler for simulation and ACE for measuring data traffic. This software was licensed via OPNET's University Program. For more details see the <a href="https://www.opnet.com" target="_blank">OPNET website</a>.

We were very lucky in this project to obtain help with OPNET Modeler from <a href="https://elvis.rowan.edu/compsci/fac_staff/#hnatyshin" target="_blank">Vasil Hnatyshin (Department of Computer Science, Rowan University, New Jersey, USA)</a>.
